A teenage girl was slapped in the face when she tried to push an attacker away.
The youngster has reported to police she was sexual assaulted on Tuesday, April 2, in Green Lane, Whitfield, at about 2.15pm.
The teenager told police the assailant had at first been walking behind her and then she made way for him.
But as he passed he spoke to her and then touched her over her clothing.
She tried to push him away and he slapped her across the face.
A member of the public saw what happened and shouted to the man who then ran away.
She then walked with the teenager to the end of the road to make sure she was okay.
Police have now issued an e-fit of a man they are looking for.
The suspect is described as being white with brown and ginger stubble, slim, in his late 20s or early 30s and wearing dirty grey jogging bottoms and worn blue trainers.
He was also wearing a black hooded top and had the hood up.
The investigating officer, DC Kristine Davies, said: "Anyone who recognises the description of this man or the image is asked to get in touch as soon as possible.
"We would also like to speak to the member of public who witnessed this assault as she may have information vital to our enquiries."
