Corn fire between Alkham Valley, Dover and Hawkinge near Folkestone

Ten fire engines were been called to a huge corn blaze.

It involved about 200 hectares of cornfields in Alkham Valley, near Dover and has now been brought under control..

Kent fire and Rescue Service were called out at exactly 3.32pm today.

They used jets to bring the blaze under control.

Afterwards they damped down and turned over remaining hotspots.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said this evening: "Firefighting resources are expected to be scaled down shortly. There are no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known. "

Earlier warnings by the fire brigade for nearby residents to keep windows and doors shut as a precaution have now been lifted.

First tentative reports had been that the blaze had been on land between Alkham Valley and Hawkinge.
