Accident fears from sinkhole at Odo Road, Dover, Kent County Council told

Residents are calling on a sinkhole to be fixed before there is an accident.

One, Claire Jones, says that while the hole in Dover appears to be small and hand-sized on the surface on closer examination it is much bigger underneath.

The hole at Odo Road, Tower Hamlets, was first discovered last Saturday and is now coned off.

Mrs Jone, who took photographs, told Kent Online today: "Our main concern is that the void underneath the small hole possibly extends beyond the area of the cones and the road is unstable. making driving in and out unsafe.

"The tarmac is definitely curving in more today than it was on Saturday."

The problem was originally highlighted on the Dover for Disgruntled Dovorians Facebook page.

Another resident, Brian Walters, commented there : "Large vehicles are still driving over, being as the four traffic cones are not fixed in place.

"If they are moved any car can be written off if a wheel went down, let alone injuries."

Residents have contacted Kent County Council.

Its highways department has now tweeted that Odo Road will be closed from 9.30am to 6pm on Friday for repairs.

The council has been contacted for further comment.
