A jobless Dover man has been given a suspended jail sentence after admitting an attack in a park.

Connor Portainer, 19, grabbed a metal pole after a family had complained about chips being thrown at their daughter.

As the group of youngsters fled the recreation ground in Northbourne Avenue, Dover, in June 2015, the victim Ruslanas Urbonavicius took a photograph of their car.

Canterbury Crown Court heard that it was then that Portainer got out of the vehicle and attacked his victim, who was with his wife and daughter.

The court heard how Portainer hit him on over the head and body with the weapon, leaving him nursing cuts and bruises.

The teenager was later arrested after police used the photograph on the victim’s phone to track the vehicle through its registration number.

Portainer, of Clarendon Road, Dover pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

He was given a nine month jail sentence suspended for 18 month and ordered to do 120 hours of unpaid work for the community

The teenager was also ordered to remain indoors between 9pm and 6am for the next three months and pay his victim £100 compensation.
