Businesses in east Kent have been warned to be wary of a fraudster operating in the area.

A man, said to be posing as the director of a ticket company and has approached restaurants, shops and salons to inquire about their services.

He has been offering discounted tickets to staff, promising that they will be posted in due course. But nothing is received.

The first incident happened on September 29 when the suspect entered a store in the High Street, Dover, and obtained £45 from victims.

He struck again in Ramsgate on October 3, where he entered another store - collecting £115 for tickets.

A further similar incident was recorded at a restaurant in Margate on October 6 although no money was given.

The suspect is described as between 50 to 60 years old, white, 5'10 tall with black collar-length hair.

Investigating officer, PC Dave Ansley, said: “We have received reports of this scam throughout East Kent, the most recent in Thanet where thankfully the business owner did not fall for it.

"The suspect is very plausible, well-dressed, and reports suggest he even makes calls to assistants to confirm tickets.

"But none of this is true, the tickets do not exist."

"We are urging anyone approached by such a character not to part with any cash but to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ref SI/ZY/8270/14."
