SECURITY at Dover, already stepped up as a result of the terrorist attacks in London, will be heightened still further during the next week as the town gears up to welcome the Queen.

It will be her first official visit to Dover for nearly 50 years.

Her Majesty is due to fly into the Eastern Docks on Wednesday at 10.40am to officially open the two new ferry berths which have been constructed.

After meeting port representatives she will move on to Dover Museum where she will be shown the Bronze Age Boat gallery. She is due there at about 11.20am.

About 25 minutes later the Queen will visit the Dover Watersports Centre on the seafront.

Her visit to Dover is one of eight events around the country that day by eight members of the Royal Family on a maritime theme.

Last time she came to Dover in 1958, with the Duke of Edinburgh, she had only been Queen for five years and was returning from a State visit to the Netherlands. On that occasion she went to Dover Castle and the Town Hall.

The public are being told that as well as being able to see the Queen arrive and leave the Museum at the Market Square, the best vantage point to see the Royal visitor will be on the seafront, near the Watersports Centre.
