An MP has called on residents to follow government advice, help where possible, and “show the strength of our community”.
Natalie’ Elphicke's comments came as coronavirus continues to spread in the UK.
The death toll today came to 177, the biggest rise in a day.
This is among 3,983 confirmed cases in the UK.
But the Dover and Deal MP insisted: "Together we will beat this."
In a further squeeze on everyday life Prime minister Boris Johnson has today ordered cafés, pubs, bars, restaurants and gyms to close from tonight to try to stop the virus spreading.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a package of support of more than £330 billion to help Britain, with further announcements on support for workers and others to come.
Mrs Elphicke has been working in Parliament all week, voting through legislation, giving advice to constituents, and trying to help local people who are stranded abroad.
Her usual surgery appointments are being held by phone, in line with government guidance.
Mrs Elphicke said: “This is the most serious public health threat we have faced for a long time.
“I have often talked about the strength of our community, the commitment of local people to each other. Now we will need that commitment, that strength and that togetherness.
“To not take unnecessary risks. To do what each and every one of us can to protect others as well as look after ourselves.
“At this time of national crisis, we need to trust the expert scientists and the commitment of the government to get us through it. I know that this is a time when many people will be concerned.
“Yet together we know we have the national, community and individual strength and resolve to beat the virus. And we will.”
Mrs Elphicke has advised anyone with specific concerns relating to the outbreak to visit her website,
It will be updated with advice, links to official guidance and key contact details.
Constituents can get in touch with her directly by emailing Natalie.elphicke.mp@parliament.uk
