There have been traffic delays in three areas for much of this afternoon and evening.
They have been caused by one reported accident in Folkestone, a road closure further east and high volumes of Dover port-bound traffic.
There have been unconfirmed reports of an accident on the A20 Ashford Road at Folkestone.
This was thought to have been between two vehicles and led to queues in both directions.
Accident debris was later cleared but delays for drivers remained.
Kent Police have been contacted to provide and confirm full details.
Meanwhile Highways England announced that the coastbound A20 was shut between the M20 Junction 13 and the A260 junction.
The government agency explained that this was to prevent a build up of traffic at the Round Hill Tunnel at Folkestone while the port traffic control system Dover TAP was in place.
Resulting queues have been reported.
At 5.30pm Kent Highways announced that the tunnel was re-opened but traffic continued to be diverted up and over the M20 Junction 13 roundabout.
Long delays remained on the approach to M20 J13.
There have also been severe delays and stationary traffic due to lorries waiting to get into Dover Eastern Docks on the A2 Jubilee Way coastbound at the docks roundabout.
It is believed that there has been congestion several miles up the A2 to the Lydden turn-off.
Surrounding main roads around Dover have also been affected due to a high volume of stationary traffic.
A tweet from Kent Highways this afternoon said: "Dover, A256 Junction with A2: Coastbound A2 entry slip closure due to high volumes of traffic on the A2 main carriageway.
"Please use the signed diversion route. Expect delays and allow extra time for your journey."
