Two people are in hospital this morning after the car they were travelling in careered off a main road and into traffic lights.

Pictures taken at the scene in South Military Road at 11.30pm show a crumbled white Mercedes surrounded by emergency crews.

The A20 between the Western Docks and Aycliffe roundabouts remained fully closed until 2.30am and partially shut until about 7.30am.

The driver and a passenger were treated for injuries before being taken to a local hospital.

Police confirmed the Folkestonebound carriageway was closed due to a fuel spillage and to allow recovery of the vehicle.
