A man killed in a car crash on the A2 has been named locally as Denny Wiltshire.

Tributes have been pouring in for the young man, who died after the accident near Dover last night.

Aged only in his 20s, Mr Wiltshire was the passenger in a Volkswagen T-Roc being driven by his friend when it collided with a tree at around 8pm.

The vehicle was travelling on the coastbound carriageway near Shepherdswell when the tragic accident happened.

Both sides of the A2 were temporarily closed following the crash, with the coastbound carriageway only reopening at 3.10am.

The driver of the vehicle, a man in his 20s, is understood to have been taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, where he remains with serious injuries to his neck.

Many of Mr Wiltshire's friends took to social media to pay tribute to the "amazing" man.

One friend said: “I’m devastated. Denny was amazing.”

Another friend said: "Another one taken too soon, he was a very polite young man, he will be greatly missed by many".

A third commented that he would "never be forgotten".

"Denny was a great guy," they continued. "And was so lovely to everyone who knew him".

Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash, and would like to hear from anyone who has information.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who was travelling on the coastbound A2 and has footage of the collision, or footage of the vehicle being driven in the moments leading up to the incident.
