A large lorry that became stuck in Aycliffe last night has destroyed a wall and broken a car wing mirror.
The HGV was in St George’s Crescent at around 9pm as it attempted to navigate round the residential area.
This comes after Dover TAP was implemented late on Tuesday afternoon as traffic to the port was very busy.
Gary Dodd, of St George’s Crescent, said: “We had two lorries up Aycliffe last night and one of them attempted to get round St George’s Crescent with devastating results with a damage wall and a car wing mirror broken.
“This is at least four times lately, that I know of, that lorries have come up to the estate to try and park.
“One even parked in Ropewalk bus stop. I reported this to the police and a bus driver has also reported it.
“The Highways Agency has promised to put no entry signs to the estate for lorries but are yet to act on it.”
The truck itself was also badly damaged to the side of the vehicle and its wheels, when it mounted the wall.
Residents posted on Facebook to thank the group who came out of their houses to help, as it is believed the lorry looked like it would tip over at any minute.
