KENT Police are warning members of the public to be on their guard after a suspicious scanning device was placed on a cash machine.

The device, which was made to look like a genuine cash machine slot, was discovered on the machine outside the Nationwide Building Society in Biggin Street, Dover.

It was found by a customer at around 11.40am on Thursday, May 24. It has been sent for forensic examination.

It is unknown how long the device was in place or if anyone’s bank card details were skimmed.

Customers who used the cash machine are being advised to check their bank balance sheets and to report any discrepancies to their bank or building society in the first instance.

PC Phil Harvey-Hendley said: "People who withdraw cash from these machines should make some checks before they enter their card in the slot.

"Check for signs that the original facia has been tampered with and report any suspicions immediately to the bank or the police.”
