Weak Whites squander two penalties

DOVER Athletic travel to Cambridge City on Tuesday night (September 16) hoping to improve on the dismal display they gave in the 0-0 draw at home to Chippenham on Saturday.

Jamie Day, still absent with a leg injury, was sorely missed on Saturday - chiefly for his penalty taking skills. Dover threw away two chances from the spot.

The first offender, after 34 minutes, was Matt Carruthers. His fierce drive crashed against the bar.

In the 72nd minute Chippenhan defender Simon Charity inexplicably handled in the box to gift Dover a second penalty.

Lee Spiller took over the spot kick duties - but managed to blast the ball over the top.

Spiller, the inspirational man-of-the-match against Welling, had an opportunity to redeem himself six minutes later but his shooting was not any better as he snatched at a shot and drove it wide.

Dover Athletic: Hyde, Browne, Dyer, D.Readings, Arnott, Chapman, Patterson, Spiller, Wilkins, Tyne (Glover 54), Carruthers. Substitutes not used: Amadi, Smissen, Cloke, Postma

Attendance: 809
