The infamous Stink Alley is living up to its name after a woman was spotted defecating near a wall.
Stink Alley is not mentioned in the Dover guidebooks, for reasons that are probably already obvious.
Repulsive images show a man urinating in broad daylight and urine stains on the walkways behind and to the side of the Asda supermarket block at Charlton Green.
Our sister paper The East Kent Mercury has also seen pictures showing remnants of defecation by a woman, too graphic to publish.
The area is nicknamed by locals because of the stench left behind, especially in the summer.
Litter is also regularly strewn around.
The photographs have been taken by Augusta Pearson, who lives at Branch Street, across the road from the back of the block.
She told the Mercury: “It’s disgusting to see, and incredible to think there are adult males who are quite relaxed about urinating in public at night, never mind in broad daylight.
“I find it worrying at any time they have so little control, especially as there are toilets in Morrisons. It is a worry because some children wander along there by themselves.”
Mrs Pearson says she has complained to Asda for months and says the company has not sufficiently cleaned the area.
She has become so angry with the company she has stopped being its customer and put pictures of the area’s condition on Facebook.
Mrs Pearson has also sent photographs to the company with the heading: “Gas masks and wellies needed.”
Her accompanying email says: “Wish I could transfer the odour so you could share the bouquet of parfum du toilet.
“It might help you realise how utterly disgusting it is.
“The locals’ nickname for the path is Stink Alley.
“I have been complaining about this for months to Asda.
“I have started posting the pictures on Facebook. Thus far Stink Alley has reached areas in Belgium, France, Germany and Spain.
“I am delighted to tell you it is rated top of the dirtiest walks to any shops.”
Mrs Pearson wants the company to tackle the problem with a jet spray.
She also says in her correspondence to it: “The hot weather has turned the walkway into a place that resembles a Third World country.
“Visually it is at best disgusting, the smell outstrips any blocked sewers and made some people, including myself, gag.
“Surely, as part of your responsibility, it is important you present some semblance of having evolved past this gutter level and start treating the customers with some more respect.”
She adds that the one bin outside the shop entrance is constantly full and overflowing and rubbish blows everywhere.
Mrs Pearson, however, says that Dover District Council has been “brilliant and very helpful,” cleaning the area twice in three weeks.
The council has cleaned the road behind the supermarket, Branch Street, and the pavement behind the side of the shop’s wall.
Dover District Council spokesman Andy Steele said: “We do understand residents’ concerns and have been working to keep the area clean. We continue to work with the police to look into these concerns.”
