Dover Athletic captain Mitch Brundle praised the strong character of his team after they got a late winner against Guiseley on Saturday.
Brundle had given his side an early lead at Crabble after lashing the ball into the top corner from 25 yards and Dover looked to be cruising to victory.
Against the run of play, Guiseley scored directly from a free-kick and looked to be hanging on to a point. Two minutes from time Mitch Pinnock got the deserved winner to keep Dover in the play-off places.
Brundle said: “It shows when we’ve got the strong character in our team we keep driving on. We never see a game as won or lost at any stage and we fight to the death.
“The goal came but it should have been dead and buried by then. It’s another win and we are all delighted.
“Those wins mean a lot more than when you win 3-0, they are the results you grind out and look back on at the end of the season.”
Dover have now won their last three in all competitions and confidence his high in the dressing room, according to Brundle.
He said: “The spirit in the dressing room is phenomenal. We get on well and strive to make ourselves better.
“I’m really enjoying the captaincy and I’m thriving off it. Today I could have had a hat-trick if I would have had a few more balls went my way.
“It was one of those games where everyone was a captain out there. People in the dressing room are losing their voices because we knew against a side like that it would be tough as they are fighting for their lives and we are fighting for our play-off spot.”
Brundle’s goal on Saturday was his fifth in all competitions this season and his side are sixth in the league.
The 23-year-old is hoping to keep Dover’s momentum going when they play their round of 16 FA Trophy match against Leyton Orient on Saturday.
He said: “If you are going to do anything this season, cup runs build your momentum going into the league games.
“If you have a loss in the cup it might dent your performances. We will prepare next week as if it is a league game.
“We have played them before and they have given us a tough game. Everyone in there would love to play at Wembley but there is still a lot of games to play before we get there.”
