Player-assistant manager Mitch Brundle admits Dover are looking to quickly move on after their draw on Saturday with Farnborough.

Reggie Young put the visitors ahead in the first half at Crabble but they missed a penalty at the start of the second period.

Whites' top scorer Alfie Pavey then netted an equaliser from the spot to extend his team’s unbeaten run to five National League South games - their longest unbeaten streak in nearly three years - as they earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

“We weren’t at the races today,” said Brundle, out with a knee injury and therefore in the dug-out alongside manager Andy Hessenthaler and coach Mike Sandmann as he came up against his old club. “It was a frustrating game.

“But we are five unbeaten and it showed good character from the boys not to lose that game so we sort of brush that game aside and move on to the next one really, [and] try to forget that one as quickly as possible.”

The impressive Young put the away team in front, Spencer Day’s men catching Whites napping with a quick-corner routine.

Brundle said: “Out there, it was 2 v 1 and a bit disappointing because we speak about these things. We watch them.

“But we just weren’t at the races and, once the goal came, I think they could have had a couple more in those early stages. But the boys dug deep.

“There was good resilience there. I think, at the start of the season, we probably would have lost that game so it shows character.

“It wasn’t our day - there were too many performances which were below-par - so we just brush that game aside, we stay five unbeaten and we [aim to] get three points on Tuesday.”

Things could have got even worse as the second half became a tale of two penalties. Referee Steven Hughes adjudged home left-back Alfie Paxman to have fouled Young, only for Jordan Norville-Williams to miss the penalty, before away skipper Kevin Lokko was - controversially - adjudged to have handled on his Crabble return after Dover frontman Chike Kandi had flicked on Luke Wanadio’s left-wing cross. Pavey converted from 12 yards for his fifth goal of the campaign.

On the penalty his side had conceded, 27-year-old Brundle said: “It’s not how you want to start the second half after you have just gone in and received a good talking to by the gaffer and myself.

“It’s not ideal because you feel like the 15 minutes you’ve used at half-time to talk to them has gone in one ear and out the other!

“But it was a great penalty from Alfie [to bring Dover level].

“We just didn’t have enough players at the races today. We’ll take a point from that game because we just weren’t good enough.”

Brundle, who will now help Whites prepare for Tuesday's home match against third-bottom Concord, admitted he felt they missed the presence of captain Lee Martin who served a one-match ban.

“We missed his experience and, obviously, he’s a vital player to us,” the midfielder said.

“So we’re glad it’s only a one-game suspension and it gives us a little puzzle to think about, ready for the game on Tuesday.”

Concord lost on Saturday 3-0 at Hampton while Dover are 11th, three points outside the play-off places.
