Dover’s Jake Dixon says it’s a good time to race at Silverstone next month after the Moto2 racer enjoyed his best result of the season so far with second place at the German Grand Prix.
The result was a step up from his only previous visit to the podium so far this year, when the Aspar Team rider was third in the Catalunya race back in May, and leaves him with momentum when the series resumes after a four-week break with the British Grand Prix on August 2-4.
After qualifying second at the Sachsenring, just 0.047sec off pole man Celestino Vietti, Dixon made the better launch into the first corner and stayed with the front runners despite losing the lead early on. Making his move with six laps to go, he swept back into second and dropped the chasing pack to trail winner Fermin Aldeguer by 2.1sec at the finish.
The result sees Dixon 10th in the standings on 53 points while teammate Izan Guevara, who finished 13th, is 17th 32 points behind.
“If I am honest, I am a little bit disappointed because I have not been able to fight for the win in the last few laps,” Dixon said.
“I have lost a lot of time overtaking, because every time I have overtaken a rider he overtook me back, but that is part of the game. When I have got to second position, I have shown the same pace as Aldeguer.
“Step by step we are improving. This year I have learned to be calm. Difficult situations happen, you just have to know how to manage them and I think I have done it well.
“Now I am really enjoying it and I want to thank my team. It is a good time to compete in Silverstone.”
