THE uncertainty surrounding Dover Cricket Club’s immediate playing future has been resolved, with the Crabble club being accepted into the Mid-Kent League this summer.

Dover lost their place in the Kent League last year after finishing bottom of Division 3, and with the club still owing £600 to the Kent League there were doubts as to whether they would be accepted into another league.

But Peter Robinson, secretary of the Mid-Kent League, has confirmed that Dover’s application had been successful. He said: “Dover have paid all their joining fees and been accepted into our league. They will be playing in Division 1A, which has 10 teams and is our top division.”

From this season the Mid-Kent League will become one of four regional feeder leagues for the Kent League, following the reorganisation which has taken place in the county’s league cricket set-up.

Hugh Roberts, the Dover chairman, said: “I think that in the long run joining the Mid-Kent League will prove a good move for us. We have got a young team and they will be more competitive in this league."

“It’s a well-run league and it will mean a lot less travelling expenses for us, which is important when you have got players who are still at school or college.

“We are making arrangements with the Kent League on how to pay off the money we owe them.”
