Andy Hessenthaler believes Dover’s FA Cup clash with Bury has come at a good time for the club.

Whites have grown in confidence following their first league win under Hessenthaler after beating Maidenhead United 2-0 and it allows them vital time to make additional signings.

The pressure will also be on their hosts on Saturday as they have enjoyed a good start to the season in League 2.

Boss Hessenthaler said: “I think they will show us a lot of respect. I don’t think they will make many changes and they will play their strongest team.

“The FA Cup is what it is and it brings a lot of money into football clubs. They won’t take us lightly especially after today’s performance.

“We will have a nice week and then we will go to Halifax, which won’t be easy. That will be our next league game and we can take a lot of confidence from today (against Maidenhead). Hopefully, we will put in a nice performance at Bury and get through.”

There will be players who are cup tied on Saturday and who will not be able to feature in the first round clash.

Hessenthaler says it will give some of the fringe players a chance to prove themselves.

He said: “From the starting 11 (against Maidenhead), there’s only Bobby-Joe Taylor who can’t play. Jai Reason and Lee Worgan are both cup tied as well.

“It gives us a chance to stick some of the youth team on the bench. It gives the players that haven’t been involved today to show me what they can do.”

Dover are still looking to add more players to their squad and hope to have made some signings before the next National League game against Halifax.

Hessenthaler added: “We will be looking to bring another one in as we need that competition. We lost Connor (Essam) and we lost Tim Schmoll who needs an operation and will be out for three or four months. If we win on Saturday the chairman said there would be money to get another player in.”
