Andy Hessenthaler has urged his players to leave no room for ‘what ifs’ in Sunday’s second round FA Cup tie at League 1 Peterborough.

The Whites boss admits the National League side are very much underdogs against Darren Ferguson’s men, but that does not mean they cannot pull off another cup upset.

Hessenthaler was named as the league’s manager of the week after Dover’s 1-0 home win over another League 1 side, Southend, in the first round.

He said: “To get through the last round against Southend was a tremendous effort by the players, but we’re now playing a League 1 team who are flying so we’re very much the underdogs.

“We watched their replay last week (the 2-0 win over Stevenage) and they’re a very good footballing side who move the ball quickly.

“We know what to expect, but all the pressure is on them. No one expects us to get a result.

“We’ll have to play to our maximum and hope they have an off day but what you don’t want is players coming off knowing they could have given a bit more.

“I don’t think they will because they are all looking forward to it. We’re all excited by the chance to get into the third round.”

Whites had gone five games unbeaten before Tuesday's 4-3 home league defeat to Maidenhead.

Hessenthaler described the performance as 'rubbish' and knows if they play like that at London Road they could be in for a long afternoon. Kick-off is 2pm.

On the plus side they do boast one of the best away records in the country, with seven league wins from 10.

Hessenthaler said: “We’ll go there with no fear but the one thing we’ve got to do is stay in the game early on.

“If we do then the longer it goes it works in your favour.

"The home fans get a bit restless and that can impact on the team.”

Defender Will De Havilland, fit again after an ankle problem, could be pushing for a start while midfielder Kurtis Cumberbatch may also be in line for a recall.

Skipper Kevin Lokko this week trained for the first time since picking up an ankle injury, although the game may come too early for the defender.

Striker Ruel Sotiriou, who scored the winning goal against Southend in the previous round, has been recalled by parent club Leyton Orient after completing his one-month loan deal.

Whites fans can still take advantage of free coach travel to the tie by picking up a token from the ground at Crabble.

Chairman Jim Parmenter has paid to lay on five free coaches and tokens for travel can be collected from the club’s reception right up to the weekend.

Matchday prices on the day are adults £20, over-65s £15, under-22s £15 and under-18s £5. Payment will be cash only.
