Andy Hessenthaler admits he could not fault his Dover players following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Solihull Moors.

Whites took the lead after four minutes through the in-form Alfie Pavey, before Daniel Wright equalised for the hosts late on in the half.

Scott Doe restored Dover’s advantage just before the break, only for Solihull to hit back through Tyrone Williams in second-half stoppage time.

Assessing the performance, Hessenthaler said: “Very very good, I couldn’t really have asked for any more from the lads.

“It was obviously disappointing to concede as late as we did, but that’s the only real negative.

“We could have perhaps played better football at times, but I’d have taken the point before the game, especially with the run they’ve been on.”

The visitors went ahead early on when Pavey fired home from close range after being found by Bobby-Joe Taylor’s low cross.

Wright levelled the score on 38 minutes when he poked in the rebound from Jamey Osborne’s shot but Dover were ahead again on the stroke of half-time as Doe volleyed beyond goalkeeper Ryan Boot after he had opted to punch Taylor’s cross.

Their opponents found themselves down to 10 five minutes into the second period when Liam Daly received two yellow cards, the second of which was shown for an elbow on Pavey during an aerial duel.

Solihull began to pile on the pressure in the closing stages and eventually earned a point when Williams slotted beneath keeper Lee Worgan in injury time.

Hessenthaler added: “It was one of those games, they went down to 10 and we’d done our homework to know they are direct and much bigger than us.

“They had nothing to lose and went for it and unfortunately we just couldn’t hold out.

“It would be very harsh for me to be critical, you have to give them credit.”

The draw followed up last Tuesday’s 3-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in making it four points from two games away from home, moving Dover eight points adrift of the relegation zone.

Hessenthaler said: “Dagenham aren’t out of the woods yet. It was always going to be a tough place to go so that’s a good three points and then we got the point at the weekend so the return has been really good on our travels.”
