Dover’s Jake Dixon claimed his second win of the Moto2 season at Aragon and breathed new life into the championship.

Since the Dutch round at Assen in late June Dixon has never been off the podium - a second place in Germany was followed by an emotional home win at Silverstone, third spot in Austria and now victory again.

More importantly, the Aspar Team racer has closed the gap at the top of the standings from 105 points to 43 with eight rounds still to go and could yet leave the team on a high when he moves to the Marc VDS team at the end of the season.

"Winning races is incredible,” said Dixon, who started from pole position - his first of the year.

“I am living a dream. I am very happy. I feel very lucky to be in the position I am, doing what I like most.

“I did not expect such a fast pace as the one I have had. Today I am really satisfied with the race, I have been able to withstand the pressure of the second [place] and win.

“I want to dedicate this victory to my crew chief, Quique, who has not been able to be with us on the track, but he has followed us closely."

Dixon made a clean getaway from P1 and although Tony Arbolino, racing for the Marc VDS squad, briefly got past on lap four Dixon was not to be denied, winning by 1.779sec to sit fifth in the standings.

However it was a weekend of mixed emotions for the Aspar Team, with Dixon’s stablemate Izan Guevara crashing out on the opening lap.

The championship continues at Misano in Italy this weekend.
