Dover’s Skrill South play-off hopes may appear all but over, but boss Chris Kinnear is not giving up – even if it looks like a long shot.

Whites will finish the season on 69 points if they win their final game of the season at relegation-haunted Hayes & Yeading on Saturday.

Havant & Waterlooville, who hold the fifth and final play-off berth, had 68 points in the bag before they lost 3-1 at home to Maidenhead on Wednesday.

The Hampshire side also have another game up their sleeve to secure a play-off spot, at relegated Tonbridge Angels on Saturday.

Fourth-placed Ebbsfleet are ahead of Havant & Waterlooville on goal-difference and they will qualify for the play-offs if they win at Concord on Thursday. Fleet are at home to Dorchester on Saturday.

The writing may appear to be on the wall for Dover, but Kinnear has been around long enough to know nothing is certain in this game, despite it looking all over for Whites.

He said: "Football is a funny old game and who knows if they (Havant & Waterlooville and Ebbsfleet) will win their remaining games.

"Stranger things can happen – look at Monday’s results – who would have thought Ebbsfleet would lose against Maidenhead?

"It just goes to show that anything can happen at this time of the season. We are not thinking about what could or might happen in other games.

"We have just got to focus on winning at Hayes & Yeading on Saturday and getting the three points from it. The other results will take care of themselves and what happens, happens."
