Chris Kinnear to refocus Dover after disappointment at draw with Maidstone

Chris Kinnear will get his players refocused ahead of their clash with fellow National League promotion chasers Aldershot on Saturday.

Dover have drawn all four of their matches over Christmas period and lost some ground over league leaders Macclesfield Town.

The Whites conceded a late goal against Maidstone on New Year’s Day when it looked like they would get all three points.

Kinnear said: “We are disappointed but if you look at the beginning of the season and said we would be around the play-offs we would be happy. Once you’ve got yourself in this position you want to push on.

“We have not had the biggest squad and we look a little bit tired but once we get refreshed this week and get everyone focused again and move on.

“It’s four days away, so we just have to get on. Aldershot are a decent side, they only finished one place above us last season. We are up there with them now so we can’t be that bad can we?”

It was an intense period of fixtures for teams in the National League with four games coming in quick succession.

However, Kinnear was not looking to use that as an excuse and said you just have to get on with whatever you are given.

He added: “People don’t like it. Premiership players don’t want to play if there’s three days difference but at the end of the day that’s what the rules are and that’s what everybody is doing. You just get on with it.

“We haven’t moaned about having so many games. It’s not ideal but a lot of things aren’t but you just have to get on with it and play to whatever.”

Dover have one of the smallest squads in the league and 10 players started all four matches over Christmas.

Liam Bellamy was re-signed by the Whites at the end of December and Kinnear said he may be looking to add to the squad.

He said: “You are always looking to bring people in. We will see what is happening in the future. Everyone is looking to bring people in it’s just getting the right people.”
