Life of Grimes, the weekly column with Dover Athletic captain Jamie Grimes

The fines came thick and fast ahead of our live televised clash against Woking on BT Sport last Friday.

I said in this column last week that I was positive some of the lads would be sporting fresh haircuts to make the occasion – they certainly didn’t disappoint!

And to be honest, I didn’t know so many would.

Duane Ofori-Acheampong has a great voice according to captain Jamie Grimes Picture: Tony Flashman

Mags, Millers, Duane and Naby all made a trip to the barbers, while I am sure Devs had a ‘little’ touch-up, something I think he does on a weekly basis!

They all had to contribute to the kitty but at least there were no signs of anyone having a spray tan!

That wouldn’t have surprised me, given some of the lengths the lads go to groom themselves.

While we were having a laugh before the game, we spoke about having a sing before each game, given how well it worked before the win at Eastleigh.

I put that win all down to us finally doing our initiation songs before the game!

And I have no doubt we unearthed a star in Duane. He should go on X Factor as he has one hell of a voice.

A shame he had no competition from the rest of the newbies – our efforts were so poor in comparison.

My solo, which was Glad You Came by The Wanted, sounded great in my own head but the lads didn’t agree – some asked what it was!

But I definitely wasn’t the worst. I think Naby is tone-deaf after his rendition of I Believe I Can Fly.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun and got us in a relaxed mood before the game – and look at the result!

So we thought we’d do a team song before the Woking game in the Centre Sport function room but when we realised the BT crew were sitting there too, you could say nerves came into play and we opted out.

We are not quite ready to launch the DAFC version of Boyzone yet.

On the subject of singing, I would love us to have a song to come out to when we walk through the tunnel.

That would really get the crowd involved from the start. What do you think?

What would you pick for us? And please be nice!

Until next week. COYW!
