Life of Grimes, the weekly column with Dover Athletic captain Jamie Grimes

I had to laugh at the way some of the lads approached having their pictures taken at the official photocall before Saturday’s game against Chester at Crabble.

Bellers (Liam Bellamy) took it so seriously, so I asked my weekly car schooling partner what it was all about?

And apparently it all had something to do with sending a warning to teams who look at our profiles in programmes and on our website.

Most of the lads smiled for their pictures but Bellers (pictured above) was adamant what he was going to do – look stern saying ‘If I do that, players will know they will be in for a tough game when the see it.’

He even spent time on our journey down practising pulling a ‘stern’ face and I had to have a laugh.

At least it occupied him long enough to prevent him raiding my pasta or biting into my muesli bar, something he does every week!

Not celebrating my goal against Kidderminster at Crabble last week. What was that all about?

Well, I can assure you that had it been against any other side, you would have struggled to catch me running away in celebration because I can’t remember when I last found the back of the net.

I didn’t score in my time with Kidderminster so you could say that maybe I was destined to break my long barren spell against them.

When Devs (Nicky Deverdics) delivered that inch perfect corner, I wasn’t about to do anything but head it home.

It was great to get on the end of it and score my first goal for Dover but I promised myself before the game that I wouldn’t celebrate if I did score.

I enjoyed my time with Kiddy. I have a lot of friends there still and I thought it would be disrespectful to go berserk, regardless of how much scoring on my home league debut meant to me.

I can assure you, if I score again, it won’t be so muted!

Until next week.
