Bobby-Joe Taylor enjoyed the challenge of playing against Peterborough and even found time to have a joke with Posh marksman Ivan Toney over his spectacular opening goal.

Taylor, named as Dover's man-of-the-match in Sunday's FA Cup second round tie, felt Whites acquitted themselves well in the 3-0 defeat and hopes they will be better for the experience.

The 24-year-old explained: "It's a bit disappointing that we're out because we'd loved to have progressed to the third round, but I don't think we can go away disappointed.

"I think the boys gave a good account of ourselves, the scoreline I don't think that's fair really.

"If you look at the third one on the screen, I think he's offside, we've had a blatant penalty which wasn't given, Munnsie (Jack Munns) has hit the post.

"I've had a shot the keeper saved so I think we were well in the game.

"Second half up until they scored the second goal I think we were the dominant side.

"The boys dug in deep, against a League 1 side who are third in the league, they've got some good players, you could see that.

"Toney's a good player. He's strong lad, you can just see the sort of form he's in with the goal because that can go anywhere.

"If that happened again I don't think he could do it again. I've just said that to him and he had a laugh.

"I think we probably could have prevented it anyway when me, Doey (defender Scott Doe) and Worgs (goalkeeper Lee Worgan) are shouting at Will.

"He's got to see it, to let it run through but Will's made the decision, it's not his fault the guy's hit a strike that's gone into the top corner.

"Even if Worgs was in his net he isn't saving that.

"He's a good player and it was a good test for all of us, against League 1 opposition.

"The quality they've got you can see it but I think we matched them up quite well.

"It's a shame we did not get the penalty shout or that Munnsie's shot didn't go in, because we could be one-all and you never know what's going to happen."

Taylor believes the resilience Whites showed at London Road will stand them in good stead when they resume their National League campaign.

He added:"The group we've got are strong enough to compete and I really do feel like we showed that in glimpses.

"We probably did not move the ball quickly enough from side to side to open up opportunities, but as long as we can put in that commitment and endeavour, and quality that showed at times, into the league I'm sure we can get to where we want to be which is seventh place.

"We all believe we can do that. That's what we're all trying to achieve, if it's higher than that then great."
