Former Dover Athletic keeper Andy Rafferty has joined Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division newcomers Spennymoor Town.

The 28-year-old was a free agent after being released by Whites at the end of the season.

Rafferty, who stands 6ft 6in, was one of five players let go by the Vanarama National League club in May having moved to Crabble in September 2014.

During his time with Dover he contested the No.1 spot with Mitch Walker and was man-of-the-match in their FA Cup third tie against Crystal Palace in January 2015.

He started his career with Darlington and also played with Guisborough Town where he was player-of-the-year in both his seasons with the club.

A move to Hartlepool United followed but he left by mutual consent in August 2014 and was signed by Dover boss Chris Kinnear soon after.

Rafferty trained with his new Spennymoor team-mates for the first time on Thursday night and manager Jason Ainsley told the club's website: “We’re thrilled to have signed Andrew on a two-year deal.

“He was looking to relocate back to the north east and as soon as I heard this it was important that I showed an interest in him.

“Andy is a massive presence at 6ft6 and, having played more than 50 National League games, gives us the experience that we’ll need going into a tough season."

Rafferty said: “I’m delighted to be a part of such an ambitious club. After hearing what the chairman and manager had to say and seeing the facilities it was an easy decision. I can’t wait to get started”.
