Sean Raggett admitted there was a feeling of relief rather than celebration after his late winning goal against Altrincham in the Vanarama National League clash at Crabble on Saturday.
Dover won 2-1 after Raggett was first to react to a loose ball inside the visitors' six-yard box in the 90th minute.
Asked about his emotions after scoring at the death, Raggett said: "It's more a feeling of relief because I had a great chance to win it minutes before then.
"I had a clear header from Devs (Nicky Deverdics) corner but messed it up and it was an easy save for the goalkeeper.
"I am just relieved I got another chance to redeem myself and that it ensured that we got the three points because we deserved them. We were the better side."
Raggett's late strike came after Altrincham goalkeeper Stuart Coburn had pushed away Ricky Miller's initial shot.
Not that the England C representative remembers much about it.
Raggett said: "It was all a bit of a blur - I remember Parky (Jack Parkinson) hitting the rebound across but then instinct took over and I put it in.
"You could say that I was in the right place at the right time."
