Andy Hessenthaler believes a lack of cutting edge stopped Dover from taking all three points from Tuesday night's clash with Boreham Wood.

Whites settled for a 1-1 draw at Crabble having struggled to supply the conviction their chances required in the final third.

Despite squandering opportunities to win the game, Dover's players received high praise from their manager on the back of a determined attacking display.

"I thought we were good tonight in terms of performance, we just needed to find that little bit of quality to get the three points but it just didn't come tonight," admitted Hessenthaler.

"I can't fault the boys.

"We put ourselves under pressure because of Saturday's loss but I can't ask any more of the players. They kept going.

"I though defensively we did really well. It's just having that little bit of belief and not panicking in the box at the other end. If we do that and relax it will come for them."

The hosts fell behind after just four minutes when Justin Shaibu raced onto a through ball before nestling the ball into Lee Worgan's far corner with a clinical finish.

Mitch Brundle levelled things up six minutes later with a header at the far post following Bobby-Joe Taylor's deep free-kick.

Thwarting the opposition's attempts to break quickly as Boreham Wood did is something Dover must eradicate over the remainder of the season, Hessenthaler added.

"We shouldn't have given the goal away at the start on the counter attack. It happened at the weekend and it's happened too many times.

"We've got to stop that and make sure that if we attack the way we did we also keep a clean sheet."

It's for the sightings of goal his side orchestrated, however, that Hessenthaler remains confident of securing safety in the National League.

"If you're not creating chances you would be a worried man at this stage of the season. We've created enough chances tonight so we'll take the positives from that to the game on Saturday."
