SOME of the country’s top motorcycle road racers make the trip to Lydden Circuit near Dover this weekend for rounds 10 and 11 of the MRO Powerbike Tour, including the Lord of Lydden championship on Sunday.
It is the penultimate weekend’s racing in the championship with all the classes still up for grabs.
Ashford’s Trev Stafford and Rick Long go head-to-head with Broadstairs ride Neal Cornwell and John Briggs in the Super Sidecar battles, while local aces Tim and Tristan Reeves will be taking on their local rivals in the Sidecar Burn-Up race.
Sittingbourne’s Chris Bishop may have lost his grip on the Supersport 600 title when he was hurt while qualifying for the last round at Silverstone, but local support will be towards Canterbury’s Tim Capper in one of the UK’s toughest competitions.
One-make series for Aprilia RS 125 Superteen and RSV Mille now have the backing of Shell Advance and Aprilia’s new sponsor could see the 2003 champions emerge from those races, with one round remaining at Brands Hatch at the end of the month.
Also included in the MRO championship schedule are races for GP 125, GP 250 and Supersport 400.
The action begins with practice and qualifying on Saturday at 9am with racing on Saturday at 1pm. Racing on Sunday begins at 12.30pm. Admission is £8 each day with children admitted free and parking free.
