Spurs come to aid of cash-strapped Whites

DOVER ATHLETIC entertain a Tottenham XI in a friendly at Crabble tonight (Thursday) with Whites officials hoping for a good crowd to bring in some desperately needed cash. The loss of the expected £25,000 gate receipts from the New Year’s Day derby with Margate has left a massive hole in Whites’ already threadbare budget.

But new boss Neville Southall, using some of the extensive contacts he has built up during his long career, has managed to persuade Spurs to send a team down to Crabble at short notice to help the club out.

The game has a 7.30 kick off, and Dover have reduced their normal admission prices to: Adults £5; OAPs/Under 16s £3; Under 11s £1.

The Premiership club, who lost to 2-1 in a Worthington Cup semi-final against Chelsea last night have said that Norwegian international striker Steffen Iversen, Yugoslavian international Goran Bunjevcevic, and goalkeeping favourite Dave Beasant will definitely be in the starting line-up, along with a number of fringe first team players.

Southall said: “I am absolutely delighted that Spurs have agreed to my request. It will give me the opportunity to have a further look at one or two players, raise a bit of cash, and I may even have a run-out myself!”
