Dover assistant manager Jake Leberl was happy to see his side get some payback against Macclesfield Town in the Vanarama National League clash at Crabble on Saturday.

Stefan Payne's ninth goal of the season and a Nicky Deverdics penalty secured the 2-1 win after the visitors had opened the scoring in only the fourth minute.

The Cheshire side won both games against Whites last season, both by 1-0 margins, and it felt good to the tables as far as Leberl was concerned.

He said: "I thought we got mugged a little bit by them last year.

"Both games I thought a draw would have been fair result, but they done a job on us.

"So it's nice to get a win against them and enjoy a bit of payback from what happened last season."

The win sees Dover remain third, but they are now just two points behind leaders Forest Green Rovers.

But Leberl admitted his side had to work hard to get the three points against Macclesfield.

He said: "I thought we did alright in the first half but I said at half-time I felt that we could raise it a little and we did at the start of the second half.

"We got that penalty to take the lead but then we held on a little bit really - we were a little bit naïve in seeing out the game.

"They are a good team and they really come at us for the last 30 minutes.

"To be honest, I thought the performance was similar to our win against Wrexham last Saturday where our spirit and work rate eventually got us the three points."
