National League South strugglers Dover have sacked Mitch Brundle as their manager.

Whites are second-bottom in the table - three points ahead of basement boys Havant & Waterlooville - who they were beaten 4-3 by on Saturday in Brundle’s final game in charge.

Dover haven’t won in the league since a 2-1 victory at Slough in August despite earning nine draws in 21 league fixtures this term. They last kept a league clean sheet in April and haven’t won in National League South at Crabble since February 28.

In a club statement on Tuesday morning, chairman Jim Parmenter said: “I would like to thank Mitch for his tireless efforts during his time at the club.

“He has worked diligently to try and improve the club’s results. Unfortunately, even when we have drawn so many matches, those wins have continued to be elusive - therefore, it’s time to take a different direction.

“A further statement will be made in due course, confirming the new management structure.”

From 47 matches in charge, Brundle had overseen eight victories, 14 losses and 25 draws. They scored 44 and conceded 83 times during that period, which saw them keep seven shut-outs in total.

Whites, who only stayed in National League South on goal difference last term, had named Jake Leberl as their new assistant last month.

But Leberl’s return has done little to improve Dover’s fortunes so far, with Whites losing 1-0 at home to Weston-super-Mare and against Havant, despite James Dunne’s double and a goal by fellow midfielder George Wilkinson.

The Havant defeat came after 18-year-old midfielder Paris Lock had been recalled by parent club AFC Wimbledon.

Young boss Brundle, who turned 29 on Monday, signed an 18-month contract with the club in January to replace Andy Hessenthaler and become one of the youngest managers in the UK.

Dover are 10 points away from safety and will aim to begin reeling in fifth-bottom Truro City as they visit them this Saturday.
