Jake Dixon’s dream became reality after the Moto2 rider’s last-lap triumph in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Aspar Team’s Dover racer beat Spain’s Aron Canet to the chequered flag by less than two-tenths of a second on Sunday to claim his third career victory, his first of the season and his maiden home success.

“It is a dream come true,” said an elated Dixon.

“Had they told me at the beginning of the weekend that I was going to win, I would not have believed it. I have fought for it, and today I knew I could do it.

“After last year’s disappointment, winning today is incredible. I am very happy. I have just waited for my moment.

“The team has done an amazing job, and I hope we can win many more races from now on.”

The win was even more sweeter after last year’s race, when Dixon qualified 11th and crashed out following an incident with Darryn Binder.

Starting from fifth, Dixon was in second place by lap two and as the the leaders pulled away from the field he made his move on the Spaniard going into the first corner at the start of the final tour.

He held on for an emotional triumph in a roller-coaster of a season which saw him injured in practice during the opening race of the year in Qatar, forcing him to miss the first two rounds.

“I believe in myself more and more,” Dixon added.

“I did not have any doubts today, I knew I could put on a special show.”

Dixon, seventh in the standings on 78 points, is back in action in Austria on August 16-18.
