Jake Dixon wants his final race weekend with the Aspar Team to be his most memorable.
Dover rider Dixon ends his four-year spell over two stages with the Spanish squad at Sunday’s Moto2 Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona. The event is a late replacement for the Valencia race which was cancelled in the wake of the devastating floods that hit the city - home to the Aspar squad - last month and killed more than 200 people.
Aspar’s most successful rider with 16 of the team’s 39 podiums, Dixon, who will join Marc VDS for the 2025 Moto2 campaign, admits emotions will run high this weekend - but he is determined to go out on a high after an incident-packed campaign.
His season began with a horror smash in Qatar practice before a racing lap had even begun back in March, and when he returned to the saddle some costly race crashes followed. However two wins, including a first home victory in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in August, put Dixon in the title mix before results tailed off.
“It is going to be emotional,” Dixon said. “I will try to enjoy this last race as much as possible because it will also be a sad weekend.
“We have been together for four years, including 2019. These last three years have been incredible, with victories, with podiums.
“The Aspar Team has put me on the map, even if the end of this year has not gone as we expected. This is life, this is racing, we couldn't have done more than we have done.
“The connection with my team has been very important to me. I will give 100 per cent to try to make it my most memorable weekend with the CFMOTO Aspar Team and I will enjoy every moment before this chapter closes.”
Dixon’s team-mate, Izan Guevara, is also saying goodbye to Aspar this weekend after five seasons with the stable.
