DOVER Athletic stage their own version of 'Back to The Future' at Crabble on Saturday when Whites take on Calais Racing Union FC.

The Hoverspeed Challenge Trophy clash gives fans their first chance to see Tony Browne, Tommy Tyne and Lee Spiller back in white shirts after the trio rejoined the club from Welling United.

Last year Calais completed a 3-2 aggregate win over Dover, winning 1-0 at their Stade Julien Denis after a 2-2 draw in Dover in 2003. This year’s competition is played over one leg.

Fans should note that the game kicks off at 1pm for the sake of Calais’s travelling arrangements.

The French club play in the French Championnat National Groupe A alongside Paris St German Reserves and Auxerre Reserves, and local rivals Boulogne and Dunkirk, in the fourth tier of French football.

Dover’s first six pre-season friendlies are all at home, with Coca Cola League 1 side Colchester United visiting Crabble next Thursday.

Whites manager Clive Walker , currently coaching in the USA, will be back in charge for the game against Margate on Tuesday, July 26.

Assistant manager Steve Nolan, in charge until then, pronounced himself pleased with the fitness, attitude and commitment of the players in last week’s opening training sessions.

He said: "They all looked pretty good. Their match fitness will obviously come. We worked extremely hard. All the running we’ve done has been game specific and we’ve covered considerable distances.

"The new boys have fitted back in really well and have come down with loads of enthusiasm."

Nolan said all the players are injury-free, but Shane Hamshare and Buster Smissen are unavailable on Saturday as they will be on holiday.
