Dover Athletic's return to action could yet be further delayed due to Covid-19.

Whites chairman Jim Parmenter opted not to finish the club's fixtures last season due to a lack of promised funding with no crowds allowed back into grounds.

It meant Dover were hit with a £40,000 fine and 12-point deduction at the start of this season.

But manager Andy Hessenthaler and his squad are now self-isolating for 10 days after two positive tests in their ranks. Their season is due to start against Solihull Moors at Crabble on August 21.

Mr Parmenter said: "Our priority is the health and wellbeing of our players and staff. We will keep everyone informed.”

A club statement said: "We can confirm that due to two confirmed cases of Covid-19 in manager Andy Hessenthaler’s squad, the entire group of players and management are now self-isolating for a period of 10 days in accordance with National League protocols and Public Health England guidelines.

"We now await confirmation regarding next Saturday’s opening National League game of the season against Solihull Moors at Crabble."

The last time Dover played a league game was on January 30, a 3-1 defeat at Yeovil.

The latest news comes as fans aim to get a bumper 3,000 crowd at Crabble for the Solihull Moors match.

League 2 Harrogate Town have already been forced to postpone three matches this season due to Covid, while closer to home Welling Town's trip to Fisher in Southern Counties East was also postponed. Lordswood's next two matches - including a home derby with Chatham - were postponed on Thursday due to a Covid outbreak in their camp.
