Dover Athletic’s departed midfielder Michael Woods has joined a club that’s close to his heart.
Woods, 30, ended a year long stay at Crabble after agreeing a termination of his contract and he’s joined up with his hometown club York City.
He’s not the first person in his family to play for the City of his birth, with his grandfather making over 250 appearances for the club and his uncle turning out for their too.
“I grew up as a kid on the terraces...it’s an opportunity to come home and I can’t wait.
“I feel very lucky, it feels a bit like a fan coming to play for the club he supported as a kid.”
Woods’ time at Dover was cut short as the club looked to save money by transfer listing their senior players from last season’s squad. He had moved to Dover after a season with Harrogate Town.
The player hopes he can be more of a goal threat at his new club too, saying: “I like to get on the ball. I was asked to play more of a defensive role last year at Dover but I do like to get box to box.
“I had a chat with the gaffer and the plans going forward for the season – there's going to be that freedom for lads to go out and play and express themselves.”
Dover, meanwhile, play their third pre-season game with a trip to Herne Bay tonight (Tuesday).
