Dover centre-half Sean Francis says it would be a proud moment in his career if he gets to captain Dover in the next two Vanarama Conference games.
Regular captain Connor Essam's yellow card in the 1-0 loss against Grimsby Town at Crabble on Tuesday was his 10th of the season, meaning a two-match ban.
That will see him miss Saturday's home clash with bottom side AFC Telford and Tuesday's trip to Wrexham.
And boss Chris Kinnear has indicated Francis will fill the void left by Essam.
Kinnear said: "Sean has been really strong and imposing for us. He's been doing plenty of talking and organising and that's what we need someone to do."
Francis, who joined Whites on a one-year deal in the summer from Bishop’s Stortford, was hoping he does get the nod to do the job.
He said: "It will mean such a lot to lead the lads out. It would be great but I will have to wait and see if the gaffer gives it to me first.
"I've been a stand-in captain a couple of times before at other times in my career and I've really enjoyed it.
"It's a great honour to wear a captain's armband at any level."
Francis also said he would like to stay at Crabble.
He said: "I haven't spoken to Chris (Kinnear) about a new contract yet but I'd like to remain here.
"We have come such a long way this season and I'd like to continue to help making the strides we have next season."
