Nassim L’Ghoul has left Dover Athletic after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
The club are keen to move on as many of their contracted players as possible after issuing a statement last week warning they could go bust.
L’Ghoul is expected to be followed by numerous others out of Crabble with the 2020/21 season set to start in October.
The Frenchman joined the club from Welling United, having previously been at the Nike Academy and having a spell with Whitehawk. He made 29 appearances in the National League for the club last season, scoring three goals.
One of those three goals was in Dover’s last game before football was suspended because of Covid-19, netting a late equaliser against Chesterfield.
A brief statement on the club’s website said: “We wish him all the best for the future.”
Dover have made all of their contracted players available for free as the club look to fill a £250,000 hole in their finances, caused by the Covid-19 crisis.
There are 14 others at the club currently contracted. Chairman Jim Parmenter asked for them to take a 20% cut, which is what has been agreed by the management.
He feels that will help them survive. In a recent interview on the BBC, he said: "We’ve virtually cut every cost we can and of course our biggest cost is wages by some margin, something like 80 per cent of our costs.
“At the moment we’re not able to negotiate anything there apart from the management team. We’re not able to negotiate with the players a reduction and that is causing us the issue."
