Dover Rugby Club’s Mat Gilbert is all smiles after his university team, Hartpury College, part of the University of the West of England, were awarded the BBC West Sports Awards trophy for team of the year.

Gilbert, the first choice No.8 for Hartpury, helped his side add the EDF Energy Senior Vase to the Gloucestershire Premier and BUSA Championship trophies with a 83-5 demolition of Wheatley Hills at Twickenham in May.

Mat is also first choice for the Hartpury RFC Saturday team currently at the top of the Western Counties North league. He has also been selected for a number of Gloucester A games in the Guinness League.
