Chris Kinnear is looking at Dover’s promotion push with his glass very much half-full.
Dover had a free Saturday due to scheduled opponents Boreham Wood’s FA Trophy commitments but other Vanarama National League games went ahead, including Dagenham’s clash with Chester.
Chester are in the pack of teams chasing Dover in the final play-off spot – with nine clubs separated by nine points – while Dagenham were sitting fourth, one place ahead of Whites, before Saturday’s game.
Chester led 2-1 with four minutes to go but the Daggers hit back to win 3-2 and go second but Whites boss Kinnear admitted: “I probably wanted Chester to win.
“We are trying to get to the teams above us. We are not looking at what’s below us, we are looking up. You have got to have a positive mindset.”
Another team in that play-off chasing pack are Saturday’s visitors to Crabble, Wrexham (3pm).
The Dragons have won four of their last five – the other game a draw at Chester – and Kinnear said: “What a club they are. They have played in the Football League, they have even played in Europe. They are a massive club at this level.
“We drew there 0-0 on the opening day and were disappointed not to win but they are a good side and have been on a good run. It will be another tough game.”
Former Blackpool and Shrewsbury attacking midfielder James Caton joined Whites last week after a spell at Southport and made an immediate impact, scoring in Monday night’s 4-0 Kent Senior Cup quarter-final win over VCD Athletic at Crabble.
Kinnear hinted that Caton would not be the last new face at Crabble this term, adding: “We are still talking to players and agents, all the time. We’re always looking for things that might improve us.”
One player linked with Whites, Macclesfield midfielder Oli Norburn, is unlikely to arrive at Crabble, however, in favour of a move to a club based in the north.
