Chris Kinnear has hailed 2015 a magnificent year for Dover Athletic.

The Crabble boss picked out reaching the third round of the FA Cup and quarter-finals of the FA Trophy as two main highlights but says those achievements and going into the new year fifth in the Vanarama National League is down to hard work, not luck.

He said: “It is no fluke. We are where we are because of what the players have done for the club.

“They make mistakes and things go wrong but it’s not for the want of trying and that is all you can ask for as a manager or supporter.”

Kinnear added: “We are a small club in terms of support and finance but the way we train and play we are not – we are one of the top sides.

“We’ll have disappointments but we are not ones to dwell on them. We just have to stay focused and push on and keep ourselves in there.

“The way it is at the moment we could get to Wembley twice, maybe we won’t but you have to have goals.

“We may not make it but we only need three points to make sure we are not relegated, so it’s a nice situation to be in. Everyone here, me, the players, Jake Leberl and Mark Newson have all got ambition.

“I don’t have any football New Year resolutions, though. It’s no different to the rest of the season and all about getting the next three points.”

Dover will train on New Year’s Eve ahead of the return fixture against Welling on Saturday.
