Dover manager Chris Kinnear summed up the stunning 1-0 FA Cup second round win at League 2 side Cheltenham Town on Sunday in one word - outstanding.
Not bad when you consider Kinnear was honest and admitted it hadn’t been the best of performances from his side at Whaddon Road.
Kinnear said: “There is no doubt that it wasn’t the best we have played for a while.
“But saying that, we battled hard and we got the job done and that’s what counts at the end of the day.
“You cannot doubt the character and determination of the lads - they were brilliant, they were outstanding.”
Captain Connor Essam scored the 83rd-minute winner which secured Dover a berth in Monday’s third round draw for only the second time in their history.
Kinnear said all his players deserved credit for the win.
He said: “They had their backs to the wall at times but they backed each other, they didn’t let anyone down and they earned what they thoroughly deserved.”
But who would Kinnear, whose side are now unbeaten in 11 games, like to get in the draw?
He said: “Manchester United away would be great but you have to take what you get. We are through and that’s the main thing.”
