Whites striker Ross Lafayette is loving life at Dover so much that he doesn’t even mind who’s scoring the goals – so long as they keep coming.
The 30-year-old former Welling frontman set-up Moses Emmanuel’s goal in Saturday’s win over Lincoln and proved a hard-working nuisance to the City backline all afternoon.
After joining following an ill-fated spell at Eastleigh last month, Lafayette scored on his first Whites start against North Ferriby and netted in four of his six appearances thereafter.
While Saturday’s 2-0 win was his third straight game without scoring, he is not remotely worried, insisting: “It was nice to start getting the goals from the start but it’s been good to have been able to play my part, even if it hasn’t been me scoring.
“As long as someone is getting them I don’t mind. The main thing is to keep winning.”
Lafayette claims he is feeling more at home in the Dover system and added: “I have got a lot more understanding of how we’re going to play now and I am anticipating more and more what’s going to happen.
“We know what we need to do. Confidence is good at the moment and we are all together.
“It’s a nice place to be. It’s definitely up there as one of the best environments I have been a part of.”
Lafayette revealed there was a healthy rivalry among himself and the other Dover attackers, even if he teed-up one of them, Emmanuel, for his first goal in over a month on Saturday.
He said: “Moses has been quality, we get on well and worked well together in that moment.
“All the strikers are secretly hoping to be the top goalscorer. I am only one behind Ricky Miller now but I need to get back on it before he pulls away.
“We are fortunate to have five good strikers. We had Ricky Modeste out on Saturday but we had Moses ready to come in and it was seamless.”
Lafayette is hoping to add to his tally when ninth-placed Dover visit Chester, sat 15th but unbeaten in four, on Saturday (3pm) before Sutton visit Crabble on Tuesday (7.45pm) having lost four of their last five games.
Lafayette said: “Chester is another big game. I scored against them for Aldershot last season. They have not started the greatest but are always a tough side, I know only too well as that game I scored in we lost 8-2 there.
“We have another game on Tuesday but when you’re winning you don’t mind the quick turnaround.”
Modeste and Emmanuel will have thigh and hamstring strains assessed this week while Tyrone Marsh is set to return to training after a knee problem next week, although Richard Orlu (hamstring) remains out.
