Ross Lafayette hopes he can keep his goalscoring form going all season and fire Dover into another promotion chase.

Against Barrow on Saturday, the 30-year-old former Luton forward made it three goals in as many games since joining the Whites following his release from Vanarama National League rivals Eastleigh by mutual consent.

Lafayette scored 39 goals in 90 appearances to help Welling to the 2012-13 Conference South title before landing a move to Kenilworth Road the following year.

Following loan spells with Woking and Welling, he joined Eastleigh last summer but, having struggled to hold down a first-team place with the Spitfires, he spent the back half of last season on loan at Aldershot Town.

Lafayette admitted his goal in a 4-2 win at Eastleigh last week had been sweet and claimed: “It’s nice to score in my first few games but first and foremost it’s just good to be back playing."

He added: “I know losing (Nicky Deverdics and Stefan Payne) is a big loss and following last season will be tough but ideally the plan is to come here, score some goals and get in the hunt.

“Like I’m sure all strikers, I am looking to get 20 goals-plus but as long as I’m helping the team to win games, that’s the most important thing.”

Lafayette will seek to continue his hot streak in this weekend’s Bank Holiday double-header.

On Saturday, fourth-placed Dover take on Torquay United (3pm), while on Monday afternoon Whites host Aldershot (3pm).
