Dover Life Guards’ Molly Lown made a splash when she beat world champion and Team GB Olympian Molly Renshaw at the Sprint with Stars gala.

Lown, along with clubmates Tommy Goldup and Edward Williams, took part in the event at the London Aquatic Centre where swimmers battled for a place in the finals and the chance to take on the likes of Renshaw and Olympic gold medallists Adam Peaty and James Guy. Finalists going up against their heroes would be helped by an age-related head start.

Racing in the 15 and over 50m breaststroke, Lown set a new personal best of 34.97sec - the fastest in the event out of around 200 swimmers - to secure a place in the final against Renshaw. And, with a two-second head start, she clocked 35.03 to win with Renshaw third.

Goldup, also in the 15 and over category, took part in the 50m butterfly and sixth place in 28.15 - just off his personal best - was enough to qualify for the final with Guy.

Like Lown, Goldup was given a two-second advantage and he improved his time to 28.03, finishing ninth, with Guy winning the race.

Williams, racing in the 13 years category, entered all four sprint races and set four personal bests but narrowly missed out on the finals. He swam 34.24 in the backstroke, finishing 14th, 28.60 in the freestyle, finishing 16th, 32.39 in the butterfly, finishing 19th, and 35.95 in the breaststroke, finishing 11th.
