Sean Raggett hopes to be fit to continue Dover’s promotion push over Easter weekend, despite seeing his international dream hit by injury.

The big defender, 22, suffered an Achilles injury in Dover’s 1-0 win at Guiseley on Saturday and was being assessed by medical staff at Crabble on Tuesday night.

As a result Raggett was withdrawn from the England C squad to fly out to the Ukraine for the first game of the new International Challenge Trophy campaign in Kiev on Tuesday, being replaced by Bromley’s Jack Holland.

Raggett revealed: “I got a kick in the first half but I played on, I wanted to get through the whole game but I was struggling a bit. It was really sore and on Sunday I was in agony.”

He added: “I was really disappointed to have to miss out on England, I was really looking forward to it, but it is just one of those things that happen in football.”

Raggett has made 37 appearances this season and hasn't given up hope on keeping his place for Saturday’s visit of Torquay - though boss Chris Kinnear has been looking at a potential loan signing as cover.

Raggett said: “It was an impact injury so hopefully there’s no long-term problem. I am having it assessed but in the mean time hopefully some rest and ice will help and hopefully I can be back fit for the weekend.”

Torquay and Monday’s opponents Boreham Wood are battling relegation and Raggett added: “At this stage of the season sometimes it’s harder playing teams down there who are fighting for their lives.

"It’s going to be difficult for us but we have to keep picking up points because nobody else seems to be dropping them.”
