Sacked Browne taking Whites to tribunal

FORMER Dover Athletic manager Steve Browne is taking the club to an industrial tribunal next week.

Browne, in charge at Crabble for three months last season, was sacked when Jim Parmenter took over as chairman in January and brought back Clive Walker as boss.

Browne had a two-year contract running up to the end of the 2005-06 season and is now looking for compensation.

He said: "I was very disappointed with how Jim and the board acted when they took over.

"But this is not my preferred course of action, and I have tried on several occasions to reach an agreement with the club."

Mr Parmenter said: "We have tried to negotiate what we consider to be a reasonable settlement with Steve but to no avail, and so we are being forced to go down the legal route."

Whites, meanwhile, have been given two weeks to find the £9,000 that the Inland Revenue are demanding in unpaid PAYE dating back to January 2004, before Mr Parmenter and the current board took charge.

Whites’ chairman insisted that the money "would be found from somewhere".

But his fear is that further unwanted legacies from the previous regime could yet emerge.

He added: "We sorted the 2003 accounts in May and Dave Weber and Phil Henley are working hard on unravelling 2004 by the end of July.

"Then we can start on 2005, although financial records are very sketchy before January when we took over. Only then will we be in a position to be absolutely certain.

"The problem is that the previous board had not lodged accounts since 2002 and we are still trying to sort out the mess."

On a more positive note, Whites are hoping that they will be in position to announce a new sponsorship deal before the home friendly with Margate on July 26.
